A Day for Random Acts of Kindness

Wouldn’t it be great if people start doing random acts of kindness for a whole day? Why, the world would be such a wonderful place if only people would do that. Just imagine, your next door neighbor would offer to mow your lawn for you, your aunt would offer to baby-sit for the kids while you and your wife go on a romantic dinner, your little sister would stop pestering you for a while, and your boss would not be such a slave driver for a day and would actually give you a few breaks. Of course, you wouldn’t just take and take and take. You would also give your share of kindness. You could try helping that old woman cross the street, you could give a toy to that little girl who is bawling her eyes out, you could buy some flowers for your wife or you could give your mother a call and ask her how she is and update her about the things that have been happening in your life.

It’s such a great idea, isn’t it? It’s great if you could do random acts of kindness to make the world a better place even if it’s just for a day. It would be so great if people would actually stop being selfish and actually try to give a part of themselves to other people. It would be great to see people actually being happy to give, and not caring about what they would receive. It would be great if everyone would be altruistic and selfless. It’s such a great idea that it would be stupid if there really was no such day. In fact, there’s a whole week dedicated to random acts of kindness.

The second week of February is the week wherein people would usually do random acts of kindness for the people they know or those who they haven’t even seen before. February 17 is Random Acts of Kindness Day. However, few people know about this day. It’s not nearly as popular as Valentine’s day or St. Patrick’s day but it’s meaning is just as beautiful, if not more beautiful than some of the most popular holidays.

There are four concepts behind Random Acts of Kindness Day. One of them is altruism. Altruism simply means selflessness. It’s doing good things for other people without expecting anything in return. The second is kindness. The third is glamour bomb, but it should be for goodness, and not for mischief. The fourth is the Pay it Forward System. There is actually a movie inspired by this system. It simply means gratitude. When a person does something good for you, you have to do something good for three other people in return.

So, spread the word. Tell everyone you know that February 17 is the day for random acts of kindness. Maybe, when everyone sees how much better the world can become by just doing a lot more good deeds, then kindness wouldn’t be overlooked anymore. Maybe, with the help of everyone in the world, everyday can become a Random Acts of Kindness day.
