International Tuba Day

International Tuba Day
May 2 2008 - 12:00am
US/Eastern

International Tuba Day is celebrated annually on the first Friday in May.  Tuba players, otherwise known as tubists, gather at some celebrations to perform arrangements for tuba and euphonium

What's this euphonium thingy edging in on tuba day?!

A euphonium is a more manageable cousin of the tuba.  However euphonium players are generally not referred to as euphoniumists.

Tuba day, for many players, is their just reward for the extra hassle of carting around a large and often expensive instrument. It is also a chance to show that the instrument is a surprisingly versatileinstrument.  You may be shocked to hear a tuba virtuoso playing "The Bells of Saint Mary's".  The range and expression possible with practice and dedication is surprising.  This is not to undersell the value of the rank and file players marching with sousaphones, providing the foundation for a band's wall of sound.
