John Hancock’s Birthday

Born in Braintree, Mass. 1737–93, Famed founding father and signer of the Declaration of Independence.

Hancock was an active member of the Continental Congress, serving as President of that body 1775–77,and 1785–86. His oversized signature appears first on the Declaration of Independence as a bold personal message to the King of England. The signature is so well known “John Hancock” is often synomynous with signature. He also served as governor of Massachusetts.
