Sweetest Day

Sweetest Day
Oct 18 2008 - 12:00am
US/Eastern

Sweetest Day  is always the third Saturday in October. This
holiday is very popular in the area from Detroit through Cleveland to Buffalo.
But it's recognition  is growing countrywide.

The Sweetest Day Beginning

Over 60 years ago, a Cleveland candy company employee, distributed
small gifts and candy to the city's orphans and shut-ins, wanting to show
them they were not forgotten.  In following years other Clevelanders
began to participate each October on the 3rd Saturday, which came to be
called "Sweetest Day". With time, the idea of spreading cheer
through small gifts included  not just the underprivileged.

Sweetest Day is now an occasion for lifting spirits with a kind act or a
small gift. The third Saturday in October is a day to bring happiness, a
chance to remember not only the shut-ins,  and orphans, but also
friends, relatives and acquaintances, a day of thoughtful words and
deeds.  This occurs often in the form of gift giving.
