Thanksgiving Day in the U.S. is observed the 4th Thursday of November

Thanksgiving is considered a day of gratitude for the bounty of the fall harvest. The 4th Tuesday of November is celebrated with friends and family by sharing a feast. Football on the TV for some families is part of the tradition, with the Detroit Lions and the Dallas Cowboys hosting games every year.

The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in Manhattan is a popular televised event. Broadway plays stop to perform scenes. There are elaborate floats, marching bands,  and the famous giant character balloons. And for the big finish Santa Claus himself passes the reviewing stand.

Thanksgiving Day in the U.S. is often associated with stories of a feast shared between the ampanoag tribe and the Pilgrim settlers.

The day after Thanksgiving kicks off the Christmas shopping season in the U.S.  Often referred to as Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving sees the greatest number of shoppers in a year.  However the highest amount of daily sales is either Dec 23rd or 25th.
