I love his singing live but I think the backing singers didn't work on this performance - they seem to be singing on the wrong key for this song.

Well actually your right... The backing singers sounds "not well". But George Michael sang that song very well...

Note that one or more of the singers are not actually singing. The background vocals are (I believe) are a combo of the original recording and this Oprah performance.
