On my E string, the first 2 frets don't work, they sound like poop. How do I fix it?

You wouldn't play one string of the pair without the other - They're both the same note, just one octave apart.
monkiman818 (October 21, 2008 at 10:24 pm)
not really, unless you get an actual octave mandolin. normally they're the same note.

well an octave mandolin is titled as such because it is tuned an octave lower, not because the string pairs are octaves.

the bouzouki however does have octaves on the lowest 2 strings, and is very similar to an octave mandolin. in fact, i bought bouzouki strings for my octave mandolin and have the lowest string pair tuned in an octave.

Fender Acoustic/Electric Mandolin

do u think that is a ok kind to get i love mandolins!! well hey writ me back k thanks buhh bye!! =]

the acoustic-electric mandolins by fender are usually made more cheaply than solely acoustic ones. if i was you, i would aim for one of the acoustic fender mandolins that are closer to $300.

if you had a bit more money, seek out a goldtone or washburn. the gibson mandolins are good but not really worth the price

u can just try to i guess
generally you dont really do that
think of it like a 12 string guitar

i have a mandolin and mine has 12 strings why does he have 8?
drumnbass00 (September 20, 2008 at 5:47 pm)
your mandolin must be made to be in the same tune as a guitar. I'm not sure though.

i learned the banjo, then mandolin, i need to learn the guitar... one string pair = one string
